Family Life
In Family Life, we help students gain the skills and understanding they'll need to be successful and happy throughout their childhood, puberty, teen years, and adult life. Emotional and social intelligence have been shown to be at least as important as academic intelligence.
With a two-day introduction in third grade, the Family Life program begins a dialogue among students about human growth and development. Students are encouraged to be respectful to the individual changes they experience as their bodies grow. We build on this in our Middle Division classes and also give students a clear knowledge and understanding of human reproduction, anatomy, physiology, and sexual development.
Upper School classes continue the work begun in earlier years and, in the seventh and eighth grades, add an understanding of the emotional, social, and physical health implications of sexual activity. Students are helped to gain the ability to make informed and responsible life decisions.
