Chess
Saint Mark’s chess program operates on two levels. The first, and most basic, level is the Chess Club. The club is for beginners who wish to learn how to play or for those who wish to drop in for a casual game of chess. The Chess Club is held two days a week: the Girls’ Chess Club meets on Tuesdays at lunch; Open Chess Club (anyone may join) meets on Wednesdays at lunch.
Involvement in the Knights, Saint Mark’s Chess Team, constitutes a deeper level of participation in the school’s chess program. Students must try out and be selected in order to join the team. Participation in the Chess Team is a yearlong commitment. Practice is held twice weekly, on Mondays and Thursdays, during lunch period. The Knights compete in local, state, and national championship tournaments and have won many awards and trophies over the years.
