Afterschool Club
In recognition of the needs of busy and working parents, Saint Mark’s offers a full-service Afterschool Club for students whose parents need flexibility in carpool pick-up or drop-off times. The club provides a warm, friendly, safe and nurturing environment where students can socialize with other students, play games, participate in fun and educational activities, work on homework, eat a healthful snack and relax.
Activities rotate daily and seasonally. Students play Foosball, Banana Tag, Basketball, Kickball, Checkers and memory games. Holiday activities have included building a gingerbread house and enjoying piñatas. Students work on art projects, bead and make gift boxes for holiday gifts. Certain days of the week are reserved for specific activities – Wednesday yoga, Thursday planting and watering in the Organic Garden, and Friday nature explorations. Special Friday nature projects have included a one-hour program from Tree Frog Treks and a Nature Classroom Safari.
The Afterschool Club consists of three distinct programs. The first is a brief morning club, from 7:30 to 8:20 am, for students who need to be dropped off at school early before classes begin. The second is a club specifically for Kindergartners and is free of charge. It starts in fall when 2:30 pm Kindergarten dismissal commences and lasts for 40 minutes, at which point the students are escorted to regular afternoon carpool. The final club serves all students, Kindergarten through eighth grade, and runs from 3:30 to 6:30 pm, Monday through Thursday, and Fridays, 2:30 to 6:30 pm. Parents pick up students, within these hours, at their convenience.
The Afterschool Club places an emphasis on eating fresh. Students in the afternoon clubs are given a quick healthful snack, such as juice and/or water, fruit and crackers. A hot snack, such as quesadillas, taquitos or pizza muffins, is offered once a week.
Afterschool Club Staff
The Afterschool Club consists of Deborah Doble, Afterschool Club Director, and three assistants. Carol Faulhaber, Logan Ginsberg and Krista Bendinelli work in the morning club and Krista also assists on Friday afternoons. All are trained to supervise students’ games and activities and are attentive to the students needs.
