Math

The fourth through sixth grade courses cover a wide range of areas that include numeration, measurement, geometry, functions and formulas, data collection, algorithms and procedures. These are taught using a spiral approach in which concepts are introduced and repeatedly taught to ensure mastery. In addition to mastering basic mathematical concepts and facts, students also develop problem-solving skills such as analytical/critical thinking, logical reasoning and oral/written communication skills. Students are consistently challenged through hands-on exercises to use the concepts they’ve learned to solve problems in the real world.

For example, sixth grade students might apply basic math skills to concepts such as probability, Las Vegas style. Students would answer questions such as: why are casinos always financially successful, do casinos ever go bankrupt and how do casinos afford to keep bright lights on all the time? This interesting real-world inquiry helps them understand the concept of probability and increases their passion for the subject as it increases their skills.
