Multicultural and Global Education
Multicultural and global education are intrinsic to every facet of our students’ education: Saint Mark’s recognizes that the school community is an amalgam of nationalities, races, ethnicities, classes, socio-economic groups, genders, sexual orientations, religions, physical abilities, ages and learning styles. We believe in respecting the integrity of all these different groups while still educating our students so that they can ultimately adapt and succeed
Classroom curricula, reading materials, library resources and programs like Roots & Wings and Holidays around the World are all part of daily student life, while student-initiated clubs, such as Piece of Peace, a discussion group for sixth through eighth graders, allows students to discuss and debate global issue of interest to them.
Saint Mark’s has forged lasting reciprocal partnerships with the Canal Alliance in San Rafael and with its sister school in Maputaland, South Africa. New associations currently being forged promise ongoing relationships with Beijing Elementary Experimental School #2 in Beijing, China, and Crawford School in Johannesburg, South Africa.
Multicultural and global awareness play a significant role in our community service programs, our educational programs, and our celebrations. They are the very heart of the Saint Mark’s community.
